The equation is simple in this game. Cameroon are already out, Holland are certain of a place in the knock-out stages, and the only thing up for grabs is whether the Dutch cement top spot.
Cameroon - Netherlands.
Cameroon have been hugely disappointing in this World Cup and in their previous game they lost 1-2 to Denmark despite opening the scoring, which means they are mathematically knocked out of the tournament. Head coach Le Guen stated that he will not resign (although he is likely to be discarded) and continues his project that has ultimately failed. Nevertheless, he has a full squad at his disposal today and given there is a lack of motivation he may try and use some less used players such as Geremi or R. Song. He may even hand a start to young keeper Ndy'Assembe. They haven’t been playing well and head into the game with not much to play for.
The Dutch cement top spot with a point so there is no need to kill themselves trying to get the victory. As such, Gregory van der Wiel, Nigel de Jong and Van Persie may be rested today (cause if they pick up a yellow card today they will lose the round of 16 match), while Robben who is not fully fit may get some time on the pitch to regain match fitness. Some players have minor knocks (Giovanni van Bronckhorst and third choice keeper Sander Boschker) so there may be further changes. But quality is still spread through whatever line-up is fielded.
Probable Line-ups:
Cameroon (4-3-3): Hamidou - M'bia, Nkoulou, R. Song, Assou-Ekotto - A. Song, Eyong, Geremi - Webo, Emana, Eto’o
Holland (4-3-3): Stekelenburg - Boulahrouz, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Oojier - Van Bommel, De Zeeuw (Elia) - Kuyt, Sneijder, Van der Vaart - Huntelaar
Selection: This clash has too much indifference attached to it to make any risk worth taking. Based on previous results, Holland could potentially even finish first if they lose today depending on the result in the other game, therefore betting on a result is not worthwhile. However, i expect both teams to score and will have a flutter on GOAL: GOAL.
