The 17th round of Argentine fixture formally gets underway tonight with 3 rounds to go before the end of the Apertura. The most important game is Banfield’s away trip to Huracan, as they need all 3 points to keep them in the running for the title. Let’s go to the previews.
Godoy Cruz vs Rosario Central.
Godoy Cruz come off a 1-2 loss at the hands of Chacarita. However it was unfair given the losing goal was conceded in injury time. They will be looking for points today because of the relegation table. With regard to the team news, they will be without suspended central defender Leonardo Sigali. Rosario Central drew 1-1 with Atletico Tucuman even though they took the lead but they couldn’t hold on to their advantage as the visitors managed to get back on level terms after the interval. Although they have had a good season they still need the points for the relegation table. Central defender Guillermo Burdisso remains doubtful. Missing from today’s game until the end of the season is club skipper (goalkeeper) Jorge Broun.
SELECTION: This is a difficult game for predictions as both opponents need the points and the game could go either way. NO BET
Huracan vs Banfield.
Huracan went down without a fight away to Independiente and the final 0-2 score line only partly reflects what took place on the pitch. They remain low in the table and need the points to get out of this situation, while today they will try and get something out of what is expected to be a demanding match. Coach Héctor Rivoira makes his debut on the bench even though many other names were rumoured to take over the post. He will have to contend with the crucial absence of key midfielders Patricio Toranzo (attacking) and Leandro Díaz (winger). Banfield suffered their first loss of the current campaign and as a result dropped from top spot, which they have held since the beginning of the season. They didn’t play well in the 1-2 home loss to Racing and were deservedly defeated. They are one point behind Newells and will be seeking the 3 points away to Huracan to at least temporarily move back to the top. More than 3,500 fans turned up at training yesterday top offer support and lift their spirits. There will be no changes to the line-up given there are no absentees.
SELECTION: After the loss at the hands of Racing, Banfield will want to regain their composure and get back to winning ways away to a very soft Huracan team. They will need to get over their own disappointment before setting their sights on victory. I will select a low score, as I think Banfield can win with the minimum margin. Huracan also struggle to score freely whether they are at home or away. Under 2.5 goals.
